School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 2-In this latest installment in the series, the endearing mouse is off on a camping trip to the Big Cat Mountains with her cousin Henry and Uncle Louie. Arriving at their destination, the youngsters are assigned the chore of gathering firewood. Not surprisingly, they find exploring much more to their liking and forget all about the task at hand. Night falls and the two realize that they are lost in the woods. Scary sounds and shadows appear, rain pelts down, and there is concern that Big Cat itself may make an unwelcome appearance. However, Angelina is up to the challenge and frightens the creature away when it arrives. Soon after, Uncle Louie finds the duo. They spend the night recounting their adventure and promising never to run off again. The illustrations are typical Craig-light and whimsical with lots of detail. The picture of Henry and Angelina dancing around the campfire while their uncle plays the squeeze box is especially appealing. With PBS broadcasting the "Angelina" series, this book is sure to be popular.-Sheilah Kosco, Rapides Parish Library, Alexandria, LA (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
On their camping trip to the Big Cat Mountains, Angelina the dancing mouse and her cousin Henry get lost in the woods. They brave it out through darkness, a storm, and, by their own estimates, a near brush with Big Cat. While not terribly original, the story has drama, adventure, and a cozy ending. Newcomers and Angelina fans alike will be charmed by Holabird's spunky heroine and Craig's delicate illustrations. From HORN BOOK Spring 2003, (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
PreS-Gr. 2. The Angelina Ballerina series is greatly loved and mightily merchandised. In Angelina's eleventh book, the tiny mouse is excited at the prospect of a camping trip with her Uncle Louie and her little cousin Henry. But the adventure soon huffs and puffs itself into a challenge, as the trio climbs the arduous slopes of the Cat Mountains, and the challenge darkens into full fairy-tale nightmare when Angelina and Henry wander into the woods and are lost during a thunderstorm. Craig's pastel illustrations deftly bring out the moods of the story, both the airy gleefulness of the campers' setting out (with enchanting details such as Angelina's overloaded backpack) and the dark forest drama, filled with shadows and grasping branches. Of course, everything turns out well by the close, as fans of the series have come to expect. An engaging, suspenseful entry in the series. Connie Fletcher.
