School Library Journal Review
Gr 7-10-Hyo-Bin's striking beauty draws a number of admirers on her first day at a new school. Even popular basketball star Ji-Hwan is ready to renounce his player ways for her. Hyo-Bin, though, is tormented by supernatural powers that she cannot control, made all the more terrifying by the fact that they can harm others. Most worryingly, she and a fellow student share a grisly recurring dream in which they meet in a room filled with bloody corpses. Could Hyo-Bin be responsible for these deaths? Unconventional paneling and dramatic angles heighten the story's tension. Bold diagonal lines slice pages into uneven shards, panels frequently overlap, and abrupt close-ups effectively display the characters' angst. Unfolding with intense melodrama, Visitor may appeal more to romance lovers than horror readers; fans of shoujo manga will not be disappointed.-Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010.
