School Library Journal Review
Gr 10 Up-In this conclusion to Brian's (aka Kieran Scott) "Shadowlands" trilogy (after The Shadowlands and Hereafter), Juniper Island is a limbo, where souls resolve the problems from their Earth lives and receive a token to eternity in the Light or the Darklands. Rory is now a lifer on Juniper with charges of souls to guide. Tristan, her love interest and fellow lifer, is missing. Innocent souls, including Rory's father and sister, have been sent to the Darklands, and the incriminating tokens have been found in Tristan's room. Someone is wreaking havoc with the Universal Order. Is it Tristan? The wrongs to be righted will save the universal order and all eternity. Voice actress Amy Rubinate creates an engaging Rory as well as a host of male and female characters. Full of drama, intrigue, romance, and friendship, this series will find a ready audience in young adult collections.-Mary Lee Bulat, Harwinton Public Library, CT (c) Copyright 2014. Horn Book Review
Rory's father is in the hellish Shadowlands and her boyfriend Tristan is a wanted criminal. As she tries to discover what evil lurks in limbo Juniper Landing, Rory finds herself pulled to Joaquin, Tristan's best friend. Like Shadowlands and Hereafter, the story teeters on overblown and its characters remain weak, but the love triangle is emotional and sexy and Rory's dilemma adds tension. (c) Copyright 2015.
