Author Notes
Doreen Cronin was born in Queens, New york. She grew up in Merrick, Long Island. She attended Pennysylvania State University where she majored in journalism. Eventually she found herself using her journalism background in the world of publishing. and she turned her sights toward law and attended St. john's University School of Law. She went on to work as an attorney in a Manhattan Law firm. She wrote her book Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type in 1995, shortly after the death of her father. It took another five years, however, before the book was published. She stated in her bio that this book was not only her first published book but also the easiest book to write, taking her only about 20 minutes to jot down the story. The book went on to become a Caldecott Honor Book. While the book eventually met with great success, publishers rejected it repeatedly for several years until a publisher eventually called her with the news that it would be published. Her success as a children's author continued with books such as Diary of a Worm published in 2003 and winner of Parent's Choice Award Slver 2003 Picture Book, Diary of a Spider published in 2003 and Rescue Bunnies. She made the 2013 New York Times High Profiles List with her title Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat.

School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 2-Boom the bear, Twitty the bird, and Snot the snail seem an unlikely set of friends. Indeed, each is quite different. Boom wants to do things. Twitty is comfortable in her nest, with her yarn and crochet hook. Snot enjoys whatever life throws at her. When their day together turns from sun to rain, each handles the situation in his or her own way. Tavia Gilbert reads this sweet, simple story accompanied by light music and plenty of understated background noises. Listeners will want to follow along in the accompanying book because Renata Liwska's subtle and soft illustrations reveal much about the characters' personalities that is not conveyed in the text. VERDICT This read-along set is perfect for beginning readers who will giggle at the names and, perhaps, enjoy the message that all friends do not have to be the same.--Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary, Federal Way, WA © Copyright 2015. Publisher's Weekly Review
This is a much subtler and gentler offering than Cronin's (Click, Clack, Moo) previous picture books, making the illustrator behind The Quiet Book a fitting collaborator. The title names the story's three characters: Boom is a restless, impulse-driven bear; Twitty, a robin, is a cautious homebody; and Snot the snail exists somewhere between them, a patient observer of her world who also grabs hold of adventure when it presents itself. As the three "[wait] for the day to begin," they quietly disagree about what to do. Twitty is content to crochet, Boom says, "Let's go somewhere," and a sudden storm makes the decision for them. Cronin deploys just enough text to hang a story on ("Boom ran. Yuck. Twitty hid. Yick. Snot floated back to her spot. WHEE!") while Liwska fills in the emotional blanks, her now-familiar fuzzy-soft artwork communicating the threesome's excitement, alarm, malaise, and contentment through their body language and features. The overall effect is that of three dissimilar yet compatible friends who are so comfortable in each other's company that they barely need to communicate. Ages 3-5. Horn Book Review
A bear named Boom, a snail named Snot, and a bird named Twitty approach the day with different ideas of fun: one prefers to look for adventure, one to stay put, and the third to wait and see. Told with few words and expressive, gentle art, this is a quiet story about the satisfaction of friendships even when personalities differ. (c) Copyright 2014. Booklist Review
True natures are revealed when three dissimilar friends spend a tumultuous summer day together. Boom, a bear cub, likes to move. Twitty, a robin, prefers to stay close to home and create with yarn, while Snot, a small snail, enjoys anticipating what's going to happen. Cloudy skies and a strong wind suddenly shatter their peaceful morning. As Boom leaps out of a tree to escape the wind, Twitty secures her nest filled with yarn and buttons and Snot surfs off on a leaf with a wide-eyed WHEE! Boom and Twitty attempt to run or hide from the elements, but tiny, quiet Snot embraces each change and thoroughly enjoys the day. Endearing detailed illustrations show individual stitches in Twitty's yarn creations, Boom's fuzzy coat, Snot's red-bowed antennae and freckles, as well as a few ever-present books. This charming episode affirms that friends with different personalities can enjoy being together while still doing their own things.--Owen, Maryann Copyright 2014 Booklist
