Books in the long-running Nature's Children series provide informative introductions to wild animals around the world. Throughout each book, full-page photos offer close-up views of creatures within their habitats. On the facing pages, the text discusses the animal's features, behaviors, life cycle, relatives, contributions to its ecosystem, and (sometimes) endangered status. Features of particular interest to students include the range map in each volume and the opening, one-page Fact File feature, which briefly lays out basic information such as the animal's species, distribution around the world, habitats, physical characteristics, habits, and diet. Geckos explores this surprisingly large family of animals and explains how adaptations on their feet enable geckos to climb apparently smooth surfaces.
