School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-6-In this 10th book about the Hatford boys and the Malloy girls, the children are looking forward to the annual Strawberry Festival in June. Fourth-grader Caroline decides to be nice instead of selfish so that she can be the Strawberry Queen or a helper on the float. At school the kids are told that those who can earn or collect $20 or more for the new children's wing of the community hospital will have their choice of all the strawberry treats they can eat or be in the parade. The kids begin projects on their own but learn that they can earn more money working together in a car-wash business. Bullies down the street are upset by the competition, but the dispute is resolved by a water-balloon fight and more business. Meanwhile, the girls don't know if the family will move back to Ohio or if their father will take a coaching job in Buckman. With its likable characters and descriptions of school and family life, the novel will satisfy series fans, and new readers will be able to join in on the fun.-Debbie Stewart Hoskins, Grand Rapids Public Library, MI (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
In the amusing tenth book about the ""feud"" between the Hatford brothers and the Malloy sisters, the boys and girls alternate between tricking each other and working together (albeit reluctantly) on a hospital fundraiser. Given the two families' frequent discussions about whether the Malloys will be leaving town soon, readers will also probably wonder what's coming next in this fast-paced series. (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
Gr. 3-5. The tenth book in the popular series about the Hartford boys and the Malloy girls in Buckman, West Virginia, continues with the fun about their rivalry in grade school and in their neighborhood. Finding out there's a chance that the families might actually move next door to one other, the boys and girls outdo themselves with outrageous plans to prevent it. They do actually join forces, for a very brief period, to raise money in a car wash, where the sloshing water creates as much farce as funds. Unfortunately, when the kids get a class assignment to imagine surviving somewhere in the wild, Naylor gets stuck on the old stereotype of an Africa with Tarzan types swinging in the jungle. Still, kids will grab this for the local story and the slapstick and tricks, as well as Naylor's depiction of the sweetness in togetherness and, especially, in revenge. --Hazel Rochman Copyright 2004 Booklist
