Summary
"Delightfully witty...Savannah Breeze is a detective story with a beachy twist."
--Southern Living
Mary Kay Andrews takes us back to Savannah, Georgia, in Savannah Breeze, the uproarious sequel to her blockbuster New York Times bestseller, Savannah Blues. Breeze is the story of BeBe Loudermilk, a Southern belle who'd dearly like to get back at the handsome, two-faced con man who swindled out of everything she owns except for a broken-down 1950s-era motel on Tybee Island. Joining BeBe on a revenge-inspired road trip south to Fort Lauderdale is her junking friend Weezie, the heroine of Blues, and a car-full of lovable misfits. Readers with a taste for the novels of Fannie Flagg, Jennifer Crusie, Adriana Trigiani, and Emily Giffin--not to mention Rebecca Wells and Sweet Potato Queens queen Jill Conner Browne--will adore this delightful take on the New South and one woman's discovery of what's really important in life.

Publisher's Weekly Review
In this spirited sequel to 2001's Savannah Blues, Southern belle BeBe Loudermilk continues to attract the wrong kind of man. Thrice married and divorced, her latest romantic debacle involves Ryan Edward "Reddy" Millbanks, an unscrupulous financial consultant who takes her for nearly everything she owns. All BeBe has left is the Breeze Inn, a run-down motor hotel on Tybee Island, a quirky beach town. With the help of best friend Weezie, an antiques expert with a talent for turning garbage into gold, BeBe is determined to make the property a success. She soon butts heads with Harry, the Breeze Inn's ornery caretaker, but her efforts pay off: seemingly overnight, the Breeze Inn is fully booked and bustling. But when Reddy surfaces via yacht down in Lauderdale, BeBe hits the road with Weezie, Harry and her grandfather (who manages to tear himself away from the Weather Channel) to find the reprobate and make him pay. A former journalist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Edgar nominee Andrews writes with tongue firmly in cheek, presenting a cast of eccentric characters and a plot that's decidedly over-the-top. It's light, pastel fun. (Apr.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Kirkus Review
Andrews brings back characters from Savannah Blues (2002) for a new set of misadventures. BeBe Loudermilk is a member of Savannah's glitterati, a successful restaurateur and, thanks to some real-estate serendipity, a budding Donald Trump. While BeBe is a whiz at spotting a business opportunity, she is a washout when it comes to picking men. At 35, she has three divorces under her belt. Yet BeBe can't seem to help herself when a gorgeous man, Reddy Millbanks III, pours on the charm. Blinded by his physical prowess and distracted by other developments in her disorganized personal life, BeBe fails to catch wind of his schemes. She wakes up one morning to find that Reddy has stolen her small fortune; virtually penniless, BeBe learns the only thing left in her portfolio is a beat-up beach motel on Tybee Island. It's a painful fall from her lofty society-girl perch. BeBe is forced to scrub toilets and sweep floors in order to salvage her finances--if she can quickly rehab this property and turn it over for a profit, she might be back in business. While making cheap improvements at the motel, BeBe butts heads with taciturn manager Harry. Though Harry bristles at BeBe's bossiness and acquisitiveness, the two find common ground as they commiserate about the cards they've been dealt. Predictably, sparks fly when the uptown girl and salty dog get together. Meanwhile, BeBe and her best pal, Weezie, drum up a kooky scheme worthy of Lucy and Ethel to hunt down Reddy and out-swindle him--zany costumes and numerous cocktails are involved. A successful combination of romance and action make this sunny novel a beach-ready treat. Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
Booklist Review
BeBe Loudermilk always picks the worst men, and Reddy Millbanks III is no exception. They meet at a ball and she falls for his charm and good looks. Unfortunately, he steals her money, her business, her home, and her dignity, effectively ending her upscale life in Savannah and saddling her with a rundown motel, the Breeze Inn, on Tybee Island. The motel seems hopeless and the manager-cum-handyman even worse. Harry Sorrentino is working at the motel until he can buy his boat back and return to his life as a fisherman, and he is not prepared for the high-strung new owner and her friend, Weezie, who transform the drab inn into shabby chic. BeBe then concocts a plan to fleece Reddy with the help of Weezie, Harry, and BeBe's grandfather. This motley crew gets in and out of hilarious jams, while BeBe discovers what is really important to her. This truly enjoyable sequel to Savannah Blues (2002) is packed with Andrews' trademark wit and humor. --Patty Engelmann Copyright 2006 Booklist
Library Journal Review
In former journalist Andrews's sequel to Savannah Blues, thrice-divorced restaurateur BeBe Loudermilk loses practically everything when suave "Reddy" Millbanks III expertly seduces and fleeces her. All that remains is Breeze Inn, a shabby beach-town motor court that's seen better days. As the inn's new owner, BeBe opens for business while her lawyer tries to recover her losses. Disgruntled caretaker and fisherman Harry needs the work and a place to live, so he begrudgingly helps BeBe and her antiquing friend, Weezie, fix up the rooms. Customers miraculously appear, and business is good, but BeBe still wants to exact revenge on Reddy. She sets out to do so with the help of Weezie, Harry, and her eccentric but lovable Kit-Kat-and-peanut-butter-eating grandfather. This fast-paced sequel stands on its own; new readers can jump right in and thoroughly enjoy it without feeling lost or confused. The characters are realistic and likable, and the perfect mix of comedy, action, and romance makes this book nearly impossible to put down. Recommended for all public libraries.
