Lars, the little polar bear, dreams of flying in the sky like a bird. One day, he meets a lost puffin who cannot fly home because his wings are sticky with oil. Always ready to help a friend in need, Lars takes the little puffin to the healing waters of the hot spring where they discover a bright red hot-air balloon. At last, it seems that Lars's dream of exploring the sky will come true!

Author Notes

Illustrator Hans de Beer was born in 1957 in Muiden, the Netherlands. He works as a freelance illustrator for books and children's magazines. He is also the author of the Little Polar Bear series. His books have been published in numerous languages.

Horn Book Review

As with other Spanish editions of books about Lars, this translation of [cf2]Little Polar Bear and the Big Balloon[cf1] is unnecessarily difficult, with words that probably won't be familiar to younger readers. The appeal of this story about the Little Polar Bear helping his Puffin friend get home is lost under the weight of the language. The illustrations are appropriately snowy.
