Gr 5-8-From building reusable rockets to planning a voyage to Venus, this series offers a detailed look at space travel and exploration. For instance, Finding Earthlike Planets explores the use of telescopes and space probes to search for exoplanets. The books include archival photos, illustrations, and infographics to support the narratives. A different type of technology and a "person of impact" are featured in each title; however, only one of the individuals is a woman, and only two are African American. "Think About It" prompts are scattered through the series to encourage deeper thought, and there are review questions for each book (and an answer key). The text is engaging and informative, covering the history of the space program as well as plans for the future. VERDICT The titles on NASA and the Apollo missions may duplicate current holdings, but overall the series is a useful addition with current and forward-reaching topics. © Copyright 2018.
