Nearly all of the many archival photos are black and white, but there's plenty of color on the pages in the headings, borders, and text boxes. Opening with Andrew Rube Foster as a larger-than-life pitcher psyching out a batter in 1903, A Whole New League tells how he created and managed the powerhouse American Giants team as well as the successful Negro National League. Although some overlap in coverage is unavoidable, each book focuses on a distinct topic and presents it in a straightforward, accessible way.
