Have you ever wondered how the universe began? Growing up, Brian Greene's father taught him to think about the world in different ways. Greene was curious about how it all worked. He set out to find answers to big science questions.

At Harvard University, Greene studied physics and was named a Rhodes Scholar, an honor only the most gifted students receive. He was fascinated by the new theories explaining the universe, but he wanted to share his fascination with everyone, not just with fellow scientists. He started writing books and offering free lectures to help ordinary people understand complex ideas. Soon, he was even appearing on TV. Follow Greene's path from curious kid to celebrity scientist.

Author Notes

Matt Doeden received a BA in journalism from Mankato State University. After graduating, he worked as a sports writer for the Mankato newspaper, and then as an editor with a small children's publisher called Capstone Press. In 2003, he became a freelance writer and editor. He has written and edited hundreds of books on numerous topics including cars, sports, airplanes, geography, science, and math.

Gr 4-7-Featuring brilliant and fascinating visionaries, this informative and inspiring series makes high intelligence and an exceptional aptitude for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects seem relevant. In addition, the authors render complicated topics clear and comprehensible. Enhanced by high-quality color photos, these well-written, up-to-date titles introduce individuals with whom many students won't be familiar. Readers with an interest in STEM will certainly want to emulate these accomplished figures, though. Students and educators will also appreciate the diverse representation. Thoughtful personal quotes about the subjects' lives and careers are included in "Tech Talk" boxes. VERDICT Highly recommended, especially where current biographies, particularly of those involved in STEM careers, are needed and requested; strong supplemental reading for science classes, too. © Copyright 2014.
