Summary
Drama critic Larry McKay, his wife Kay, and their four sons move from their crowded Manhattan apartment to an old house in the country. While housewife Kay settles into suburban life, Larry continues to enjoy the theater and party scene of New York.
Doris Day was born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 3, 1922. At the age of 17, she began singing at a local club in Los Angeles. After a few months as a singer with Bob Crosby and His Bobcats in Chicago, she joined Les Brown and His Blue Devils. In 1945, she released one of her first records Sentimental Journey.
Her first movie, Romance on the High Seas, was released in 1948. She starred in about 40 movies during her career including Teacher's Pet, The Tunnel of Love, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, Calamity Jane, April in Paris, The Pajama Game, Young Man With a Horn, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Love Me or Leave Me, Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back, That Touch of Mink, The Thrill of It All, and With Six You Get Eggroll. Her CBS comedy, The Doris Day Show, ran for five years. She retired from acting in 1973.
She founded The Doris Day Animal Foundation. During the 1985-86 television season, she was the host of Doris Day's Best Friends on the Christian Broadcasting Network. In 2008, she received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award. In 2011, she released her first album in almost 20 years, My Heart. The book, Doris Day: Her Own Story by A. E. Hotchner based on a series of interviews he conducted with Day, was published in 1976. She died on May 13, 2019 at the age of 97.
