Summary:
During the Great Depression, fourteen-year-old Billie Jo must endure heartwrenching ordeals that no child should have to face. She and her parents struggle to keep their Oklahoma farm running as a drought and devastating dust storms take a toil on both the land and the family. In this midst of this turmoil, a tragic household accident badly injures both Billie Jo and her mother. The quiet strength Billie Jo displays while dealing with such unspeakable loss is as surprising as it is inspiring.
