Booklist Review
Shortly after seven-year-old Lulu adopts a hamster named Ratty, she and her cousin Mellie secretly take it along for a sleepover at their grandmother's house. While Ratty behaves well overall, Nan's inquisitive cats frighten him into making an escape. Late-night shenanigans bring police officers to the scene, but all ends well. Lamont's appealing black-and-white illustrations keep up with the action while perfectly capturing the tone of the story. With warmly depicted family relationships and a continuing focus on pets, the sixth endearing early chapter book in the Lulu series showcases the strengths of McKay's deceptively simple and often amusing writing.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2015 Booklist
