Beginning with Maria Kilbride, the troubledtroubleshooter for the research wing of mysterious multinational FPI, draggedfrom hospital to investigate a case of a possessed laboratory and adisappearance that, impossibly, has the hallmarks of ancient folklore.

Author Notes

Warren Ellis is the award-winning writer of graphic novels like TRANSMETROPOLITAN, FELL, MINISTRY OF SPACE and PLANETARY, and the author of the New York Times-bestselling GUN MACHINE and the "underground classic" novel CROOKED LITTLE VEIN. The movie RED is based on his graphic novel of the same name. Warren Ellis is currently writing a TV pilot for Universal Cable Productions and working on a non-fiction book about the future of the city for Farrar Giroux Straus. His next book will be the novella NORMAL, also from FSG.A documentary about his work, CAPTURED GHOSTS, was released in 2012.Recognitions include the NUIG Literary and Debating Society's President's Medal for service to freedom of speech, the EAGLE AWARDS Roll Of Honour for lifetime achievement in the field of comics & graphic novels, the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire 2010, the Sidewise Award for Alternate History and the International Horror Guild Award for illustrated narrative. He is a Patron of the British Humanist Association, an Associate of the Institute of Atemporal Studies, and the literary editor of EDICT magazine.Warren Ellis lives outside London, on the south-east coast of England, in case he needs to make a quick getaway.

Declan Shalvey is an award-winning artist/writer from Ireland. Over his career, Shalvey has illustrated hit titles such as Batman, Deadpool, Punisher, Moon Knight as well as the acclaimed graphic novel series INJECTION with writer Warren Ellis for Image Comics. Since moving into writing, he has gained credits such as, Deadpool VS Old Man Logan, SAVAGE TOWN, and BOG BODIES.

Jordie Bellaire is a multiple Eisner Award winning colorist for acclaimed projects such as VISION, THEY'RE NOT LIKE US, PRETTY DEADLY, INJECTION, AUTUMNLANDS etc, as well as mainstream hits like BATMAN, DEADPOOL, MOON KNIGHT and HAWKEYE. She is writer and co-creator with artist Vanesa R. Del Rey on the ongoing Image Comics series REDLANDS and is the writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series.

She lives in Ireland with her famous cat, Buffy.

Booklist Review

As in Authority and Planetary, Ellis comics' acid-tripping genius once again pits a team of complex characters against the menace of a mind-warping idea. Given the sheer mass of his writing, an intelligible summary is best rendered in the scribe's own words: building something to accelerate the future, a British think tank injects a non-biological, non-physical consciousness into the heart of the twenty-first century, causing the founding science behind ancient folklore to leak into our world. Luckily, Ellis is adept at building engagingly tortured souls (particularly women) and tight action into this massive scope. Shalvey, meanwhile, proves up to the task of visualizing the human toll these depleted people must pay. The artists also bring a graceful and absolutely crucial clarity to Ellis' density of language, ideas, and scene changes, both spatial and chronological. At the climax, the aforementioned non-biological, non-physical consciousness makes it clear that this volume is only the tip of the metaphysical iceberg. Think reality is boring? Want to intensify everyday life with otherworldly experiences? Enter five slightly off geniuses, charged with predicting future events for a secret branch of the British government, who decide they can do just that. They set out to create something called the Injection, which resembles a computer code that is uploaded into the fabric of reality through magic. However, the results are disastrous, and a rift is torn in reality, merging the real world with that of the magical and bringing to life all of the scary things that come with it. The story follows the characters in the aftermath of the Injection as they deal with the consequences of their actions and the quest to make things right again. Ellis (Moon Knight; Transmetropolitan) has fashioned an intense hallucinogenic story. The panels are drawn in a style that reflects the overall trippy, paranormal landscape. Verdict This graphic novel inspires the reader to think about what is taking place. There is the sense of falling down the rabbit hole and at times being utterly lost.
