Gr 8 Up-This modern-day fantasy picks up right where Talon (Harlequin Teen, 2014) left off. Ember must convince Cobalt to help her rescue Garrett from what she believes will be his certain death. These three unlikely allies find themselves running from Talon and St. George operatives and fighting for both their lives and those of others. Told from multiple perspectives, this narrative will give readers more insight about the mysterious rogue dragon Cobalt, and will have them connecting with Dante (Ember's twin) as he rises through the ranks in the very organization Ember repudiates. With romance taking a backseat to action and character backstory, this is a sequel that will leave readers waiting impatiently for the third installment. VERDICT A worthwhile read for fans of Talon and Kagawa's other action-packed and satisfying fantasies.-Stephanie DeVincentis, Downers Grove North High School, IL © Copyright 2015. Booklist Review
Twin dragons Ember and Dante Hill are on divergent paths in this sequel to Talon (2014). After Ember runs from the powerful dragon organization Talon and joins rogue-dragon Cobalt's resistance movement, she is adamant that they rescue Garrett, the dragon slayer who helped her escape. He is being held in one of St. George's facilities, awaiting execution for treason. Meanwhile, Dante is tasked with securing Ember's return to Talon by any means necessary as his final placement test. First, though, he has to find her. This book is packed with adrenaline, conflict, and violence, as characters are forced to choose sides in an underground war, even as the lines between them blur. Ember, at the epicenter of these divisions, is propelled by her emotions and her strong sense of justice, but her heart leads her into tangles, pulled between her love for her brother and her attraction to Garrett and Cobalt. After some movement in the love triangle and the ominous cliff-hanger, readers will breathlessly anticipate Kagawa's next.--Hutley, Krista Copyright 2015 Booklist
