Booklist Review

Blood is thicker than water especially when you're a superhero. Powers team Bendis and Oeming partner again to bring readers a new series inspired by Bendis' eight-year-old daughter. Adopted teen Taki is tired of her spunky little sister, Olivia. Olivia follows Taki around everywhere, embarrasses her, and even tries to glom on to Taki's best friend, Kelly Sue. When Taki visits Kelly Sue after school, a blast from Kelly Sue's basement knocks out Taki and Olivia, giving the sisters superpowers. Although Olivia is thrilled, Taki is afraid of what these new skills might mean for them, Kelly Sue, and the creator of the blast: Kelly Sue's father. This entertaining graphic novel features a crunchy and kinetic art style, quick pacing, realistic dialogue, and enough action to appeal to most middle-school readers. The multiracial, adoptive family does not feel forced, and the writing and art accurately and affectionately capture the complexity of the sisters' relationship.
