Summary:
An emotionally & spiritually comatose suburban man decides "to hell with it all" and reverts to living as he did when he was happiest--as a carefree teenager. His desperately uptight wife and sullen daughter can only look on as he quits his corporate job to become a burger flipper, starts getting high with a strange new neighbor (whose parents are even stranger) and lusts after a pouty blonde teenager--his daughter's best friend.

Look closer...and expereince American Beauty as never before. In his directorial debut, Academy Award®-winner Sam Mendes creates, with Oscar®-winning screenwriter Alan Ball, a dark, intelligent, and truthful portrayal of sububia. Named Best Picture of the Year by over 65 critics and honored with five ACademy Awards®, including Best Picture, American Beauty stars Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening as Lester and Carolyn Burnham,, a seemingly ordinary couple whose unraveling marriage sparks a storm of change in their seemingly perfect neighborhood. Also featuring an acclaimed ensemble supporting cast, American Beauty has been hailed as a "flat-out masterpiece" (Rod Dreher, New York Post). --Back of container.
