Description:
Series of photographs relating to the new Oregon Capitol Building. The first (2-59a) is an artist's drawing of the proposed new Capitol, looking like a much larger clone of the 1876 building, and relocated from the area of the present Capitol Mall to Candalaria Heights in South Salem. Views 59b -- 59k cover the arrival of the Pioneer Statue (known locally as "The Gold Man") and its positioning on the new Capitol Dome, the heroic sculptures that flank the main stairs, one of the interior murals from the Rotunda area, views of the new building, an aerial shot of the Capitol Mall and Willamette, and finally the building with new wings, added in 1977.
