Gr. 1, younger for reading aloud. The four charming stories in this beginning reader relate the amiable adventures of three good friends. In the first, a thunderstorm drives the goose next door to the goat's house and both animals to the girl's house, where they agree that they're less afraid when they're together. In another, the goose has lost a feather. After the goose and goat search all three houses without finding it, the girl gives the goose her quill pen as a replacement. McPhail's sensitive ink drawings, washed with gentle colors, turn each story into a little drama of small proportions, lit with affection and untouched by any shadow of villainy.
