Summary

Lizzie McKettrick is coming home for Christmas. And Indian Rock's new schoolteacher has a surprise in store for her family--a special young man, Whitley Carson. He might seem a little too interested in the McKettrick money, but Lizzie's certain Whitley cares for her deep down.

Yet fate has a surprise of its own for Lizzie: Dr. Morgan Shane. When their homebound train is halted by a massive avalanche, injuring and stranding its passengers, the handsome doctor takes charge--with Lizzie by his side.

Despite their growing bond, Lizzie and Morgan know time is running out. With another avalanche looming and the train's food supply dwindling, it's going to be a bleak Christmas Eve. But with faith, hard work and a little extra help from a most unexpected source, they just might find their way home to celebrate a McKettrick family Christmas after all....

Publisher's Weekly Review

Miller's perfunctory McKettrick franchise Christmas spinoff begins with Lizzie McKettrick's trip home with beau Whitley Carson getting derailed by an avalanche that stops their train. Lizzie and handsome doctor Morgan Shane care for the injured and scared passengers, and soon Lizzie develops feelings for the doc while realizing her affection for Whitley is not as serious as she first thought. As passenger fears mount and Lizzie waits for her family to rescue them, the stranded passengers appreciate Christmas in small moments shared with strangers. This seasonal romance will be best appreciated by Miller's fans; romance enthusiasts not familiar with the McKettrick clan will be underwhelmed. (Nov.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

Library Journal Review

Lizzie McKettrick, full of news and surprises for her boisterous family, can hardly wait to get home to Indian Rock, in the Arizona Territory, for Christmas. Then an avalanche strands the train during a blizzard, and Lizzie knows it will be a miracle if she gets home at all. As Lizzie struggles to help a creative mix of passengers--including several wide-eyed children, a mysterious peddler, and a mouthy parrot--keep their spirits up, she can't help but be attracted to fellow passenger Dr. Morgan Shane, who is so different from the man she has brought with her from San Francisco to meet her family. Sweet, homespun, and touched with angelic Christmas magic, this holiday romance reprises characters from Miller's popular McKettrick series and is a perfect stocking stuffer for her fans. Miller lives near Spokane. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
