K-Gr 1-- A simple story about a busy day in the life of Bingo, a little gray-and-white dog who hates to take baths. On this special Saturday, her owners, Samantha and Stuart, are persistent because the pup is to be entered in the school's dog show. After several mishaps, Bingo, Sam, Stuart, and the children's mother arrive at the show in a police car. In the midst of all the excitement, Bingo dozes off and sleeps throughout the judging and a fiasco at a hot dog stand while the other previously well-groomed and well-behaved dogs go wild. As a result, she is awarded the day's only blue ribbon (presumably for good behavior). Levitt's colorful childlike cartoons complement the easy-to-read text; the pup's expressions are precious. Horn Book Review
In three chapters, Sam and her little brother, Stuart, plan to take their dog, Bingo, to the school dog show. Calamity strikes often, but Bingo finally gets to the show and wins a blue ribbon. With well-developed characters, a strong plot line, and natural sounding dialogue, the simple, appealing story is accompanied by clear-cut cartoon illustrations.
